30 Hour Famine 2010

This year, more than 85 students participated in the 30 Hour Famine. Guest speakers included, Mr. King (King's Kids Orphanage ministry in Haiti) and Matt Rempel (Chilliwack Youth Church). We also had a guest band, Scarlet Seal, who played at our 8 pm and midnight chapels. Students broke their fast at 6 am by sharing a banana pancake breakfast together after a long but unforgettable night of fasting, praying and playing! Total amount raised this year was $5795. Way to go, UCS!

What is the World Vision 30 Hour Famine? It is a worldwide movement of students who are serious about serving God and fighting hunger - all on an empty stomach.  For 30 hours, participants get a taste of hunger by not eating - something more than a billion people around the world experience every day. And by doing fundraising activities, community service projects, and learning more about the facts of world hunger, students are changed in amazing ways as they help others and save lives.

UCS Supports the People of Haiti

Our UCS community has many ties to Haiti. When an earthquake ravaged the city of Port au Prince and surrounding areas we tried to find ways that we could help. Many classes began collecting change and our Grade 4 class decided to hold a Bottle Drive. Soon, our gym stage was full of bags of bottles and cans. Over the course of a few weeks, our elementary students were able to raise $4057.98! Our Middle/High campus raised $1800! What an amazing way for our students to show their love and support for the people of Haiti. We’re so proud of them! Well done, UCS community!
