Unity Christian School is celebrating an extraordinary milestone as our Senior Girls Volleyball team captured the AA Provincial Championship, the first in our school’s history. Their inspiring journey through the tournament was marked by exceptional athletic performance, resilient teamwork, and a deep-rooted faith that reflects our mission of nurturing students’ God-given potential as they humbly serve God’s world.

The championship match was a commanding display of determination as Unity defeated Fernie in straight sets, 3–0, with scores of 25–15, 25–21, and 25–19. Every point reflected the trust and chemistry developed throughout the season. Their semifinal victory over Pacific Academy set the tone, propelling the team into the final with confidence and momentum.

What lay behind this championship run, however, was something far deeper than skill or strategy. Coach Laura Kampman highlighted the heartbeat of the season: team culture. “Team culture is everything. When you mix talent and a team-first mentality, anything is possible. This group of girls trusted each other and truly loved being together. When they look back on this moment, they will remember the friendships created, and the win was just icing on the cake.”

The team embraced a theme that became their identity: unbreakable. Coach Kampman explained, “Our theme this year was unbreakable—unbreakable in Christ, joy, perseverance, grit, trust, and unbreakable in the way we show up for each other. These girls came ready to work, grow, and get better each day. They were anchored to their faith and brought that to the court.”

That faith-rooted perspective gave the girls a freedom that shaped the way they played. As Kampman shared, “Whether we won or lost, God still loves us, our parents still love us… nothing changes that really matters, and that really allowed the girls to play free.”

This freedom was especially important in a year that brought big changes. Moving from the single-A division to AA could have felt overwhelming, but the team embraced the challenge. “The jump from single to AA seemed overwhelming, but as the season went on we could see it—and we believed it was possible,” Kampman said..

The team’s performance throughout the tournament also earned individual recognition. Kenna Friesen was named Most Valuable Player, while Brielle VanderKooi earned First Team All-Star, Anna Smiens received Second Team All-Star honours, while Holly Vermette was named the Liberio of the Tournament. These awards reflect the exceptional skill, consistency, and leadership displayed by each athlete.

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Volleyball team for making Unity Christian School history.
